“The 20th Century Library” is an edition founded in 1971 by Ivan Čolović. The very first book published within it was a study by Paul Lengrand, entitled Introduction to Permanent Education. Today, after almost 40 years of uninterrupted existence of The 20th Century Library, the very name of this series of books has taken on a symbolic meaning for its publisher.
From 1971 to 1973, the publisher of the series was the People’s University ”Stamenković Brothers”, from 1973 to 1974 – ”Duga” Publishing Co., from 1974 to 1980 – The Belgrade Publishing and Printing Co., while from 1980 until 1989, it was the publishing house ”Prosveta”. From 1989 to the present, ih has continued on under the ownership of its founder and editor, Ivan Čolović.
”The 20th Century Library” publishes scholarly and scientific works by foreign and domestic authors on a broad range of anthropological topics. Its objective is to introduce to intrested readers the most important authors, ideas, disciplines, and trends in the area of interdisciplinary study of man, society, and culture. ”The 20th Century Library” publishes works of proven value, those whose authors deal with new and timely issues, and offer clues for understanding the world in which we live.
Foreign works considered for this edition, are also only the ones never translated and published in our language before.
For its visual presentation ”The 20th Century Library” is indebted to the artist, Ivan Mesner, who has designed the covers for all the books, published by ”The 20th Century Library” to date.
